Vice President Biden speaks in Atlanta

President Obama’s administration sure is spending a lot of time in the south.

This time, Vice President Joe Biden has come to Georgia. He speaks Tuesday to an international group of rabbis in Sandy Springs after attending a private fundraiser Monday night.

Biden visited a home on 17th Street and Peachtree Circle to pick up checks for the Obama campaign and meet voters.

“He jumped over the hedge to come over and meet us,” Tom Lombardo told Channel 2 Action News. “I didn’t actually expect to meet him and shake his hand but it was fun to do that.”

Biden left around 8:15 p.m. as residents lined the streets to get a look at the Vice President.

“It was an amazing experience,” said midtown Atlanta resident Polly Zintak. “We were very excited to meet him.”

Biden will be the featured speaker Tuesday at the Rabbinical Assembly Convention at the Westin Perimeter Hotel. Biden will speak at 10:45. The speech is not open to the public.

The Rabbinical Assembly is an international group of more than 1,600 Conservative/Masorti rabbis.

President Obama has made two stops in Georgia this spring. The President was in Atlanta for a fundraiser in March. 10 days ago Mr. Obama and first lady Michelle visited the soldiers at Fort Stewart near Savannah.

Plus, Obama’s defense secretary Leon Panetta went to Fort Benning to speak to troops there on Friday.

These trips to Georgia are leading some to wonder if the Obama campaign will try to steal this state in November.

"I think they may be looking at Georgia,” said Emory political science professor Merle Black. “They've got to see a larger share of white voters indicating a preference for the president than happened four years ago when he ran at 23 percent."

Biden will leave Atlanta and head to Charleston, South Carolina for a a campaign event at 2:15 Tuesday afternoon.
