WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Disco is not dead. It is alive and well in baseball.

The Carolina Disco Turkeys, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, are the new franchise in the All-American Amateur Baseball Association, WFMY reported.

The team’s new logo is a nod toward the disco movie classic, “Saturday Night Fever.” It features a peacock holding a bat while wearing a white leisure suit and pointing All-American Amateur Baseball Association, à la John Travolta. Or Babe Ruth pointing while calling his shot, if you prefer baseball history.

The bird also sports light blue plumage.

The team’s roster will include college players and others who have competed at the high school level, WFMY reported.

“The branding was designed to capture the combination of determination, joy, and swagger present in both high-level athletics and music and also to appeal to all ages, especially children,” the Disco Turkeys said in a statement.

The team will compete in a 40-game season and will play its home games in Winston-Salem’s Truist Stadium, WFMY reported.

The Disco Turkeys will end their inaugural season by representing North Carolina in the annual AAABA Tournament in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the television station reported.

The Disco Turkeys can now join the line of colorful nicknames, particularly in the South. Minor league baseball, for example, boasts the Montgomery Biscuits and the Burlington Sock Puppets, to name a few.
