The hunt is over for the man accused of shooting a martial arts expert at the Starlight Drive-In Theater in DeKalb County.
32-year-old Quentric S. Williams was caught Wednesday at a hotel in Duluth.
Williams, of Lilburn, is accused of shooting 28-year-old Mitt Lenix, who was apparently having car trouble at the Starlight Drive-In Theater early Tuesday morning.
"It was a feeling of elation, a feeling of release," Mitt's father, William Lenix, told Channel 2 Action News after learning of the arrest.
Investigators say Williams tried to jump out of a third story window from the Sun Suites hotel when officers arrived.
"He did try to jump out of a third floor window, but our deputies were able to grab him and keep him from escaping. And at that point there was no further resistance," Sgt. Adrion Bell of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said.
Friends say Lenix was on a date when he was having car trouble. Police say he approached Williams for help and Williams shot Lenix and drove off.
An off-duty officer working security at the drive-in heard the shots and helped Lenix.
Officers chased Williams' vehicle until it crashed. Police say Williams fled on foot but his female passenger was detained.
Lenix parents say their son was a world champion Taekwondo martial artist and instructor. He also performed with the Georgia Renaissance Festival. He also holds a world record for jumping 9 feet 4 inches in the air and kicking and breaking a board.
"It's just so senseless," Valerie Hammond with the Georgia Renaissance Festival told the AJC. "He was the kindest, most dynamic person I have ever met."
Lenix's funeral will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, Channel 2 reported.
