Police searching for suspects behind robbery near Georgia State campus

Atlanta Police and Georgia State Police on high alert after yet another violent crime near the campus. An 18-year-old GSU student was in a parking lot on Courtland Street around 4 am Thursday with her 21-year-old boyfriend when two men approached their car asking for directions.

"The first suspect. He's described as tall, white male with a blonde, curly ponytail,” Atlanta Police Officer Stephanie Brown told WSB, adding, “He was armed with a knife.”

Brown described the second suspect as a “short, black male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and jogging pants.”

It became clear the men did not need directions.

"The suspects robbed the victims of their cell phones at knifepoint and they fled in the victims’ vehicle, a 2006 red Pontiac G6," Brown said. It has a Georgia tag: DRB126.

Students are being warned to be more aware and both the Georgia State Police and Atlanta police department are stepping up patrols and working together.

"We are working with the school because it's in close proximity,” Brown explained. “We are stepping up patrols in the area and making sure the officers are aware of the description of the vehicle and a description of the males.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for the arrest and indictment of the suspects.
