LISTEN: WSB's Scott Slade takes an in-depth look at Buckhead crime

The outcry over a spike in crime in one of the wealthier parts of Atlanta came to a head at the beginning of this year, "ending in a lot of finger-pointing among the area's top political and law enforcement figures," The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

During a Buckhead town hall meeting last month, Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields delivered a message to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard: “I need the DA to show us who is getting prosecuted and who is getting thrown out.”

Buckhead has long-been considered the wealthiest and most exclusive area of Atlanta for decades, The AJC’s Raisa Habersham and Stephen Deere explain. It has been ranked nationally among the nation’s most affluent communities.

Lately however, residents have been reporting car thefts, burglaries and armed robberies in the traditionally low-crime area.
