It is day two of jury selection in Gwinnett County in the trial of a woman accused of killing the 8-year-old daughter of her partner.

Celeste Owens is charged in the murder of Amari Hall in 2021.

The child’s mother is also charged and will stand trial at a future date.

Video evidence from 2021 shows the two women repeatedly striking Amari Hall and her siblings, demonstrating a pattern of abuse.

On November 19, 2021, police believe Owens killed the child, placed her body in garbage bags, and dumped her in a wooded area in Dekalb County.

Police believe Brittany Hall tried to cover up their involvement by reporting the child missing with a 911 call. Two days later, the women were arrested and charged. The other two children were placed in state custody.

Jury selection began Monday and continues in a Gwinnett County courtroom on Tuesday.
