A dedication ceremony will honor the bravery of Richard Jewell during the bombing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games.
Jewell alerted authorities about a backpack with the bomb in it at Centennial Olympic Park. He became the FBI’s main suspect, but was later cleared.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority will honor Jewell and law enforcement officers who responded that day at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
“Please join Georgia World Congress Center Authority for a dedication ceremony commemorating Richard Jewell and the law enforcement community for their bravery, vigilance and commitment to protecting the public on July 27, 1996,” an event announcement said.
In 2019, a plaque was dedicated at Centennial Park for Jewell.
“He deserved to be acknowledged as a hero and that is what he was,” retired attorney Nadeen Green said.
