BLUE RIDGE, GA — A former research lab chimpanzee has died at an animal sanctuary in north Georgia.

Project Chimps, a nonprofit sanctuary for chimpanzees formerly used in research labs says 36-year-old chimpanzee Jamie passed away from kidney disease on Tuesday.

She had been at the sanctuary since 2018.

Her remains will be cremated and entombed in the Project Chimps Remembrance Garden which is a place where other former research lab chimpanzees who have passed away at the sanctuary rest.
