Chasity Jones and three of her friends called themselves the Quad Squad. They even had a page on Facebook dedicated to four women who” love to have a good time and party.”
Now the Quad Squad is more like a tripod.
Jones is locked up in the Fulton County jail, charged with running over and killing veteran Atlanta police officer Gail Thomas, 46, early Wednesday morning.
Jones, of Stone Mountain, is scheduled to appear before a Fulton County judge at 11 a.m.
WSB's Richard Sangster stumbled across the woman's Facebook page which has been littered with comments after news of the officer's death broke yesterday.
Some messages of been supportive of Officer Thomas.
"Looks like the party is over...no regards for anyone...just party...what a bunch of idiots....hope your girl gets what's due to her....prison is gonna big a big party.....just sayin Prayers out to the officers family...not to the idiot that was drunk behind the wheel.....and you let friends drive drunk?"
Others have been supportive of Jones and her family.
"Well this is to everyone hating on Chasity: have any one of you ever done something that you wish you could take back? That haunts you still to this day? This is not an evil person that hates the law or people in general..this is just a girl that made a terrible decision and has to live with it for the rest of her life."
Then there are some posts that many would consider extreme.
“is it wrong to say... GREAT JOB!!!!! Cops kill people all the time and they dont think anything off it!!!"
“This is just one of those very tough days,” Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed said Wednesday afternoon.
Reed was flanked by senior police officers, their badges covered by a black band to show they’re in mourning, as he spoke to the media about the death of the well-respected officer.
Officer Thomas had just started her shift around midnight when she responded to a single-car wreck on I-75 southbound near the I-85 Northbound ramp. Police say Jones had a blood alcohol level of .16 when she slammed into Thomas as the officer was getting out of her car.
Thomas started her career as a 911 dispatcher near 20 years ago. She took calls for more than four years until Turner talked her into becoming a police officer.
"She was a genuinely good person," Friend and fellow officer Deputy Chief Renee Propes said.
Thomas’s daughter, Jasmine, was told about the accident at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The Georgia Southern University student was picked up at school by family members and two Atlanta Police officers, who served on the department’s honor guard along with Thomas, and driven back to Atlanta where she is now grieving with her family.
"She lived for her daughter," Atlanta police Chief George Turner said of Officer Thomas.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
While Jasmine Thomas was grieving over the loss of her mother Wednesday afternoon, the mom of the woman charged with killing Officer Thomas was just finding out.
Lorelei Jones had no idea her daughter was in jail when she was interviewed by Channel 2 Action News.
"Oh, no; oh, no," Lorelei Jones said as she found out her daughter was in the Fulton County jail.
Lorelei said she warned her daughter about drinking and told her to stop.
"Well, I just didn't want her to drink and drive with me. And no she's not really had a problem. But she forgets she's drinking I guess. I don't know when she drives," Lorelei Jones said.
Chasity Jones is charged with driving under the influence, first-degree homicide by vehicle and reckless driving, according to Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos.
Her mother said Chasity Jones worked as a waitress at the Longhorn Steak House on Killian Hill, not far from her home. After work, her mom said, she went out.
"She was in a bar, at a club, she goes to a club … And she told me she wasn't coming home, she was going to stay there. At a guy's house," Lorelei Jones said.
Lorelei Jones said her daughter also worked as a model.
