DEKALB COUNTY, GA — An investigation is underway after an inmate died at the DeKalb County Jail on Sunday.

The inmate, identified as 57-year-old Michael Gafa, was found unresponsive in cell.

He had been in custody since September of 2025.

DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox says there will be a thorough investigation.

Sheriff Maddox said there’s no indication of foul play.
