DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A massive sewer improvement project is set to begin this week as crews work to replace pipes near a busy road in metro Atlanta.

Crews are expected to work to repair pipes on Caladium Drive near Briarcliff Road and Shallowford Road, which has had several overflows in the past.

According to DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, residents could see water rate increases of 10% annually over the next decade to help upgrade the troubled water system.

She says the rate increases are necessary.

The money would also be used to renovate other projects and infrastructure, including the Scott Candler Water Treatment Facility, officials previously said.
