DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County residents could see an increase in their water bills soon.

The revised proposal previously discussed a rate hike of an annual 6% increase. That jumped to a potential 8% increase every year through 2034.

Now, DeKalb County Commission officials are discussing the possibility of adding a 10 percent increase annually to water rates.

On Monday, DeKalb County Commission held the first of three scheduled town halls to provide the public with information on the proposal.

The money would also be used to renovate other projects and infrastructure, including the Scott Candler Water Treatment Facility.

“DeKalb is the only major county in metro Atlanta that has only one source of fresh water,” Chief Executive Officer Michael Thurmond previously said.

South DeKalb County resident Bob Bolden says he has made multiple repairs on the line that runs to his home due to water pressure issues from the county.

The next town hall will be held at Reid Cofer Library in Tucker on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
