COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb and Douglas counties announced Friday that vaccine appointments at two county vaccination sites have been canceled on Saturday and Monday because shipments are delayed due to weather.

Health officials said that widespread winter weather dramatically impacted the COVID-19 vaccine supply chain and they have not received their expected shipments.

All vaccine appointments at Jim Miller Park and Arbor Place Mall on Feb. 20 and 22 are canceled until the county gets more vaccines in.

“Please be assured that you will be first in line for vaccination appointments next week when we receive the vaccine,” health officials said. “We will communicate by email, text, or phone to reschedule.”

Anyone who has already gotten a first vaccine dose will also be contacted about scheduling second doses.

Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach was in DeKalb County, where there was some confusion after the county moved a major vaccination site.

Not everyone who had vaccine appointments scheduled were notified that the Brandsmart vaccine location had been moved to the Doraville MARTA station. DeKalb hopes to give about 450 shots at the site per day, the same as at the original site.

Sabrina Harper was one of the first patients to get vaccinated Friday morning.

“(It was) a little confusing at first, but they took care of me,” Harper said.

The site at the MARTA station is a drive-through location but also makes it easier for anyone without a car and those who rely on public transportation to get their vaccine. All vaccinations are still by appointment only and the county is rescheduling anyone looking for a second dose. The Brandsmart location was forced to cancel some appointments last week after winter weather disrupted the vaccine supply chain.

All of the vaccines given out Friday were first doses, but with weather and supplies hopefully improving soon, the site will soon be up to full capacity. Once vaccines become more widely available, the county plans to expand vaccination sites to the Indian Creek MARTA station and the blue line.

“I’m a caregiver for my mother, so I wanted to make sure I’m not the one that will get her sick,” Harper said. “It didn’t matter to me where I went or what type of setup it was.”
