Burned body of woman found in Gwinnett Park

Burned body found at DeShong Park in Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County police investigators are trying to identify a body found burned on a trail at DeShong Park early this morning.

A couple walking their dog discovered what is believed to be the body of a black female near a pavilion.

“It’s believes she was burned in the location where she was found,” says Cpl. Ed Ritter.

He says police are not sure if the woman was killed at the park or if her body was taken there and burned.

The news has disturbed nearby homeowners like Chris Rogers who lives in the Carriage Park subdivision.

“There are children that are at the park in the afternoons and in the morning there’s elderly people that walk that park,” she tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

Brian Jones, who lives across the street, sees police frequently patrolling the park.

“I never expected it to happen at this park; this park is very well watched by the police,” he says.

In fact, Ritter says two patrol cars waiting on a shift change were at the park at the time and were flagged down by the couple who discovered the body.

An autopsy is underway to determine the woman’s cause of death and her identity.
