Former Atlanta police officer indicted in beating death of her dog

Zabria Bridges APD officer charged with animal cruelty (Douglas County Sheriff's Office)

ATLANTA — A former Atlanta police officer is facing serious charges after investigators say she beat her dog to death.

Broken bones. A disfigured spleen. And death. All that suffered by a dog named Layla...and allegedly at the hands of Zabria Jarie Bridges.

A Douglas County grand jury has indicted Bridges on three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

The indictment alleges Bridges “tortured” Layla, a golden retriever mix sometime between the end of july and mid august--causing her “severe, prolonged pain.”

Bridges is accused of beating her, breaking her bones multiple times. Atlanta Police put her on leave when the accusation came out and she quickly resigned.

The 26-year-old has an arraignment in February.
