Search and rescue crews pull a body of a Dunwoody man from the Chattahoochee River in Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge tells WSB's Sandra Parrish that 69-year-old Thomas Marvin Luckett and a friend had planned for a day of fishing.
But after putting their 12-foot Jon Boat in the water at Medlock Bridge, the boat hit a tree that was submerged in the water and Luckett was thrown out.
"He was actually the operator of the boat at the time the incident occurred," says Rutledge. "The other gentleman on the boat took over operating the boat and was able to notify authorities."
Crews searched the river for two hours before locating the body just north of the Old Jones Bridge structure.
Rutledge says Luckett was not wearing a life vest at the time and could not swim.
It's the second fatally on the river this month.
The body of 32-year-old Buyoya Paul Biswalo was pulled from the water Aug. 12. Authorities say he was attempting to swim from one boat to another at Don White Park in Roswell when he disappeared.
