Americans still see China as the United States’ greatest enemy

(WASHINGTON, DC.) — A new Gallup poll has been released, this time detailing which countries Americans view as the nation’s greatest enemies and rivals.

China took home first prize, with a full 50% of Americans naming them as the US’ greatest enemy in the world today. This marks China’s third consecutive first place position.

32% name Russia as the greatest enemy, and North Korea comes in at a distant third at 7%. North Korea has dropped off significantly since a peak in 2018, when a full 50% of Americans considered them a primary enemy in the world.

Party identification seems to play a major role in global enemy perception. Republicans are more likely to see China as a primary enemy, with 76% of respondents who identified as Republicans singling them out. Democrats lean more toward Russia at 53%, with China in second place at 30%.
