ATLANTA — Two deadly crashes along Interstate 285 caused major delays for drivers across metro Atlanta during the Wednesday morning commute.
In Sandy Springs, police say one man was killed after a crash in the eastbound lanes of I-285 near New Northside Drive.
Sandy Springs Police Sergeant Giovanni Gomez says the vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail.
“The vehicle appeared to have left the roadway and struck a guardrail, and an adult male was found deceased inside the vehicle,” Gomez said.
Several lanes were shut down for much of the morning as crews worked the scene. Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the crash.
“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing,” Gomez said.
The victim’s name has not been released.
At the same time, Clayton County police say a pedestrian was struck and killed on I-285 near Riverdale Road.
Authorities have not announced any charges in that case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police have not released the name of the pedestrian.
Both crashes contributed to significant backups on the Perimeter during the morning drive.
