UGA’s “G-Day” game features offense, young players and lots of fans in stands

ATHENS, Ga. — It wasn’t always pretty, but some 20,000-plus Georgia Bulldog football fans got to see the early spring version of their 2021 team.

While the crowds were spaced out for COVID-19 safety around Sanford stadium, the Bulldogs got off to a bit of a sloppy start.

QB J.T. Daniels, playing in his first G-Day game struggled early as his offensive line had a hard time protecting him from the defense. Daniels would finish strong though, going 28 of 41 passing the ball for 324 yards and three TD passes and no interceptions.

Potential backup QB Carson Beck got a ton of playing time and seemed to make the most of it, going 22 for 31 with 226 yards and a pair of TD’s. Highly touted true freshman Brock Vandergrift also got some playing time showing some flashes that made Georgia fans excited for the future.

Other offensive standouts included true freshman Adonai Mitchell who’s fighting for playing time at wide receiver and has been wowing coaches with his athleticism, size and speed. Super sized sophomore TE Darnell Washington drew gaps from fans after plowing through multiple defensive players taking a short pass 51 yards for a score.

If you’re keeping track, the Red team did win the game, beating the Black team 28-23.

The game put a wrap on Georgia’s spring practice season while whetting the appetite of fans eager to get the 2021 season kicked off.

The Bulldogs open the 2021 season in Charlotte, NC where they’ll square off with the Clemson Tigers in a highly anticipated game where both teams will be likely ranked in the top 10 to kickoff the season.
