Q: Can you please tell me what these are? We think they are a form of dicot but don’t know. A neighbor in Brookhaven has them in their yard, as a groundcover, in full sun.
A: Creeping phlox! At first, this was tough to tell from just the few flowers, but notice its heart-shaped petals. It’s a perennial groundcover that loves full sun, and it starts to emerge in early March.
I’m used to seeing purple, which is even more show-stopping. And the bees certainly love it. Another purple flower (weed) that you’re seeing bees visit right now is deadnettle, with tiny, light-purple flowers.
