I received this question on the show’s Facebook page after I posted a beautiful picture of cosmos growing alongside I-575 in NW Georgia! In the post, I applauded GDOT for their efforts with wildflowers along many roadsides here in Georgia. Listeners reported spotting them all the way from Hwy 365 in Cornelia to I-185 in Columbus to I-16 outside of Savannah!
Some perennial flower seeds can be planted between now and December, while warm season annuals should be planted when it warms up in the spring. You could make your own blend based on some of the flowers that GDOT lists here: https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/Wildflowers.aspx
Pike Nursery carries great seeds by Botanical Interests. The Georgia Native Plant Society is also a good resource for what to plant. Or call Jimmy Adams, owner of Adams Briscoe Seed Co. in Jackson, Ga, 877-775-7826. One more cool place to check in with is Pollinator Project, as they have been known to offer seeds for pollinator gardens in years past.
