OTAY MESA, Calif. — Customs and Border Patrol agents on Sunday found over 600 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of green onions in California.
Law enforcement officials were x-raying a tractor when “anomalies” were detected and the truck was then moved so a thorough search could be conducted at a commercial inspection facility. A canine alerted officers, who then discovered a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for the properties of methamphetamine.
Forty packages were recovered among green onions.
The driver, a Mexican citizen, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
According to a news release provided by CPB, the street value of the meth was $1.4 million.
