In a 17 hour period Wednesday, 11 people were shot and five were killed during a wild day of violence in Metro Atlanta.
The latest shots were fired within minutes and miles of each other in Southwest Atlanta.
Around 6 p.m., a man and a woman were shot to death in the 2900 block of Delmar Lane, Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police said. Officers found the victims at the Delmar Villa apartments, off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just south of I-20 near I-285.
Investigators think it could have been a murder-suicide.
"It does appear there has been a history of domestic violence between the couple," Atlanta police Major Keith Meadows told the AJC.
About five minutes later, a 24-year old man was killed after he was shot in the back. It happened in the 2300 block of Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta. Police think robbery was the motive.
Earlier in the afternoon, another person was shot and wounded on Peachtree St. at Trinity Rd. The victim was taken to Grady hospital. Police were still looking for a suspect.
That was just Wednesday afternoon.
Early Wednesday morning, DeKalb County police were investigating a fatal shooting at a Stone Mountain apartment complex, and an arrest has been made.
Police say three people were shot early Wednesday at the Colony of Stone Mountain Apartments. They say one person was killed and two were injured.
DeKalb police spokesman Lloyd Ruffin says a man believed to be in his 20s was killed. He says another man and a woman were taken to hospitals in critical condition.
A fire initially was also reported at the location.
Ruffin says a man was arrested near the shooting scene. His name has not been released. Officers say he faces a murder charge.
WSB’s Richard Sangster says officers found the man terrorizing a woman and two kids. Police took those kids out. Sangster saw one of the children sleeping, while the other was holding on the officer’s neck.
About 30 minutes later, police say a shooting at the Hickory Park apartments in south Fulton County left one person dead and two others wounded.
Fulton police Sgt. Scott McBride said Sammy Lee Roberts, 22, is their suspect. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Sgt. McBride says the shooting appears to be part of an argument that carried over from another location. The identities of the man killed and the man and woman who were wounded have not been released.
In addition to those incidents, Atlanta police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man in serious but stable condition.
The man was shot near the intersection of Weyman and Ridge avenues in a southwest Atlanta neighborhood off University Avenue.
