The Atlanta Humane Society is hoping a big reward will lead to them to the person who shot a black lab with a hunting arrow.

The 2-year-old dog named Siddie was shot Saturday afternoon near her home on Thornbriar Road in Tucker.

Atlanta Humane Society President William Shaheen calls the shooting atrocious.

"It's a significant crime.  It's a horrific crime and we felt like this reward of $2,500 shows how serious Atlanta Humane Society is in terms of bringing the criminal to justice," Shaheen told WSB.

The dog's owner Kirby Vanderyt, tells Channel 2 Action News this was not a simple bow-and-arrow.

"It's designed to bring down a deer," said Vanderyt.

She said it's a triple-point arrow that is like having three razor blades open up and bore a hole into the target.

Because of the extent of the injuries, Siddie had to be taken to the University of Georgia animal hospital where she underwent a four hour surgery. The dog’s intestines and two of her arteries were nicked.

While she is expected to recover, Vanderyt says she wants to know who did this to her dog.

"I just feel that we need to find out who did this so that we can all be assured in the neighborhood that we're all safe.  And if we're not then the police need to take care of that as well," said Vanderyt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. T. C. Medlin with the DeKalb County Police Department at 404-294-2645.
