A big religious shift in the US the nation could see an unprecedented 15,000 churches close this year, according to reports from religious denominations and church consultants.

A record number of Americans, 29%, consider themselves religiously unaffiliated.

62% identify as Christians, down from nearly 80% in 2007, according to the Pew Research Center.
