The Georgia Bulldogs are 16 days away from their season opening football game at Arkansas; the first home game comes a week later against Auburn. UGA says the Bulldog mascot Uga will not be on sidelines for this season’s four home games.

All live mascots are forbidden to be on the field by NCAA and SEC mandate. It’s part of the social-distancing plan to be able to play football amid the coronavirus pandemic. Only players, coaches and personnel deemed “essential” will be permitted in the area considered the field of play.
Uga won’t be the only bulldog not allowed this season. Count Mississippi State’s Bully XXI as one mascot that won’t prowl the sidelines. Other notables such as the Georgia Southern eagle, LSU’s Mike the Tiger, Auburn’s Aurea War Eagle VIII or Tennessee’s blue tick hound Smokey will all be missing.
