Newnan's Police Department sets aside parking spaces for those who wish to conduct Craigslist transactions in safety.
The two parking spots are marked with a sign reserving the space for online advertised sales through Craigslist, social media and even the newspaper.
Police ask users to call ahead and give officers a heads-up so the department can keep an eye out. The spaces are in front of the main entrance to the Public Safety Complex.
Newnan Police Chief Douglas Meadows tells the Newnan Times-Herald, officers will even run serial numbers on the advertised items to make sure they are not stolen.
The Coweta County Sheriff's Office offers a similar service at its parking lot, but restricts transactions to business hours.
Last week, an Illinois college student was found murdered in St. Louis after advertising his car for sale on Craigslist.
Earlier this year, a Marietta couple was murdered in Telfair County after answering a Craigslist ad to buy a vintage Mustang. The suspect in the murders of Bud and June Runion awaits arraignment next month. We may learn then if prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against Ronnie "Jay" Towns.
