One of the top five high schools in the country is in Gwinnett County, according to rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine considers the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology the best high school in Georgia and the fourth-best high school in the nation.

Seven of the top ten high schools in Georgia on the list are located in DeKalb, Cobb and north Fulton counties.  They include DeKalb School of the Arts, Walton High School in Cobb County and Milton, Northview, Johns Creek and Alpharetta High Schools in Fulton County.

The top ten Georgia high schools all merit gold medal status, according to magazine editor Anita Narayan.  The magazine evaluated academic data of nearly 30,000 American high schools from the 2012/13 school year.

Overall, Georgia ranks 12 in the nation with 19 gold medal high schools and 45 silver medal schools.

For the fourth straight year, the number one high school in the nation is the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas.
