Customers of a parking lot in downtown Marietta are causing an uproar after the owner began booting cars and charging more $125 to have the boots removed.

The Marietta city council responded by voting in favor of regulating booting.

Ted Benjamin tells Channel 2 Action News he went inside for one minute and came back out to find his car had been booted.

"I won't be back in Marietta. I won't be back. I mean, it reminds me of New York," said Benjamin.

This is definitely not what businesses in the area want to hear. Gary Leake of Johnnie McCracken's says he shudders to think if the some 1,500 bootees started complaing.

"If you multiply that times 15 people that you tell for a bad experience, that's 30,000 people that potentially have been told not to come to Marietta Square. There isn't as significant that has affected this square like this issue," said Leake.

Mayor Thunder Tumlin supported the Council's recommendation at capping fees at $50. It will take effect January 1st.
