CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A manhunt for suspects who ran from police is reportedly over. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook page announced two suspects were in custody.
One of the suspects was shot by a SWAT officer before he was taken into custody. The other was uninjured. The men were wanted for violent crimes in neighboring Alabama.
Earlier, authorities had to shut down Highway 5 from Howell Bridge Rd to East Cherokee Drive as the search for two men was underway near LAT Sportwear. The CCSO said the suspects’ car was tied to an out of state crime. The men were followed by Ball Ground police, which sparked a chase as the suspects ran into the woods. The sheriff’s office reported hearing gunfire.
Cherokee County and local authorities were aided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which sent a helicopter in the search.
