The GBI has been called in to investigate after a man is paralyzed after being tased by officers from the Rome Police Department.

Billy Walters tells Channel 2 Action News he just wants to know how an arrest of public drunkenness could leave his 20-year-old paralyzed from the chest down.

"I don't understand how something as routine as what happened ended up with him being paralyzed," said Walters.

On Saturday, Walters' son apparently got into a scuffle with police after they detained him for being intoxicated in public.  Police officers apparently tased Walters and then he fell over a 10-foot ledge.  Walters says when officers dragged him back to the squad car, he asked them not to tase him again because he couldn't feel his legs.  It was apparently several minutes though, before officers believed him.

"That's one of my main concerns.  Is the fall what done it or is their actions after the fall that done it," said Walters.

Lt. Lewis Johnson and Officer Marcus Reynolds are on desk duty pending the outcome of an investigation.
