A Gwinnett County man has been arrested after he opened fire on a convenience store.

Gwinnett County Police Corporal Jake Smith tells WSB they were responding Tuesday night to a disturbance call at a Quik-Trip on Satellite Boulevard when two men came out of the store, walked across the street to the Saratoga Springs Apartments and started harassing police.

"One of them turns around and kind of makes taunting gestures and throws his arms up in the air, directed at the officers across the street," said Smith.

He says because the officers couldn't hear them and they were on another call, they ignored them until they heard gunshots soon afterward.

"Seven shots were fired.  On the video, you can see one of them impact on the car.  The lady that they were there to actually investigate is just kind of standing out there in the open.  The officers instruct her to get behind, cover," said Smith.

He says amazingly, no one was hurt.  "There were three officers and five other bystanders around out there.  There was a Quik-Trip employee that walks out of the door behind the car that you can actually see hit in the video, just seconds before the shots were fired," said Smith.

The suspect wasn't arrested that night, but an officer who had his own dash cam video recorder in his car, caught the incident on tape, and other officers recognized him.

When police searched 34-year-old Fredrick Huse's house, they found what they were looking for.

"In the course of their investigation, they found a handgun inside of his apartment and also a stolen shotgun.  In speaking to Huse they guy he ended up being with that night, they were able to conclusively say that he was in fact, the one that fired the shots that night," said Smith.

Huse has been charged so far with aggravated assault.

"He's charged with one count of aggravated assault right now.  It could be that he will get a count for each one of the people that were out there that the bullets came near," said Smith.

While the two men never came into contact with the police or anyone else at the store that night, they're still trying to figure out a motive.

"To this point, there is no good motive except that this guy just really doesn't care for the police that much," said Smith.

Huse is expected to have his first court appearance on Friday.
