(QUEENSLAND, Australia) — Virgin Atlantic’s partner down under, Virgin Australia, has announced its plans to make flying in the middle seat more worth it.
After a poll on social media revealed that less than 1% (0.6%!) of air passengers prefer the middle seat. So, their plan to fix it is to introduce a lottery for each passenger flying middle.
The Middle Seat Lottery is a special raffle worth AUD230,000, or about $145,000 USD. Included among the prizes are tickets to a helicopter-ride pub crawl, a two-night holiday, or an Australian Football League game.
The airline plans to hold a drawing once per week, rewarding the lucky middle seaters who find themselves there voluntarily or otherwise.
