TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — Evening storms and security issues complicated tornado cleanup in Troup County on Sunday.
Troup County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert on Facebook, warning people of possible looters targeting storm survivors.
Georgia State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources and Department of Public Safety sent in more officers to patrol neighborhoods impacted.
“We do have 24/7 coverage right now,” said GSP LT. Scott Jeter.
He was part of a team who set up a road block on W. Point Rd. That’s one of the neighborhoods the tornado hit hardest in Troup County.
County wide, deputies estimate up to 130 homes and buildings were either damaged or destroyed.
Emergency management said damage assessment teams will travel the county Monday to confirm the amount of damage.
Around 8 p.m. Sunday night, hail began falling and a thunderstorm moved into the City of West Point again, forcing families and power line crews to abandon any repair and cleanup efforts.
