You now have the chance to put your thoughts on one of those changeable highway message signs.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is running a contest that is soliciting your comments that will be shown on highway signs around the state. Simply go to the website and in 63 characters or less over 3 lines submit what you'd like everyone to read. The message should fit in 1 of 5 categories like Work Zone Safety, Impaired or Distracted Driving.

I did it myself and it was really quite easy. I submitted “Buckle-Up ButterCup” in the Seatbelt category.

There are a few restrictions on entries like they can't have hashtags, websites, emojis, profanity or phone numbers. The contest ends October 18th and winning entries are targeted to start showing up on roadways just before the busy holiday travel season.

The messages will be displayed periodically statewide wherever these these types of signs are installed, primarily on interstates. They will not take the place of more urgent messaging which would include crash and lane closure information according to GDOT
