Braves-Phillies NLDS Game-2 underway after long rain delay

The Braves and Phillies - finally - are playing Game-2 of the Division Series.

What was to be a 4:35 p.m. start became a first pitch at 7:30 p.m. after a large band of rain slowly moved through metro Atlanta Wednesday afternoon.

As the raindrops fell, the Braves gave their fans a bonus for their patience - 50% off any food or non-alcoholic beverages at its concession stands until first pitch.

As for the game, the Braves are looking to bounce-back off the opening series loss on Tuesday.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, Braves’ 3rd baseman Austin Riley: “We were at this point last year. There’s no panic, it’s just a matter of coming in today and executing our game plan. There’s a sense of urgency, you definitely want to get this one today. But at the same time, you can’t put that unwanted pressure on yourself. You’ve just got to go out there play baseball and let things come to you.”

Manager Brian Snitker announced earlier that relief pitcher Tyler Matzek is done for this postseason. He is undergoing ‘Tommy John’ (elbow) surgery.

“Hate it for (Matzek). He’s struggled with things all year. I don’t know, maybe this is the reason. And I think him going ahead and getting it done and starting the process, I think he feels really good about that,” said Snitker. “Now he can look forward to -- not look forward to it, but go through his rehab. And on the back end of that he’s still a young man, have a really good career as we’ve seen what he can do.”

The Game-2 pitching matchup: The Braves’ Kyle Wright opposite Zack Wheeler for the Phillies.
