DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in DeKalb County.

Officials say the animal was found along Lincoln-Dale Court near Linecrest Road in Ellenwood. It was killed and later confirmed positive for rabies.

Residents in the area are urged to make sure pets are up to date on their vaccinations and to remove outdoor feeding stations and secure garbage cans.

The county notes it is not unusual to have several rabies cases reported each year.
