MARTA rail service shut down at station after person hit, killed by train

You've heard of air marshals on planes, but Channel 2’s Justin Gray discovered MARTA is now placing "bus marshals" on buses and trains.

ATLANTA — MARTA has shut down rail service at the Oakland City station after a person was hit and killed Monday afternoon.

It happened around 2:20 p.m. on the northbound tracks. MARTA said track power is down between the Lakewood and West End stations.

“MARTA Police are investigating, but it appears the person jumped. MARTA Safety is on scene assisting MPD and Atlanta Fire Rescue,” MARTA said in a statement.

MARTA is setting up bus transportation from East Point to West End stations. The transportation agency is also offering discounted Uber and Lyft rides with $8 credit.

The name and age of the person who died has not been released.
