ATLANTA — At least 600 workers at the Atlanta-based CDC are receiving permanent termination notices this week, according to a labor union.

Health and Human Services hasn’t commented, but points to a statement from March that says down-sizing is meant to make health agencies more efficient and responsive.

A judge had ruled that while some CDC employees are protected from mass layoffs, others are not.

The union claims HHS has lacked transparency with its cuts.
