Hurricane Ida is no match for a jazz composer based in Louisiana

A hurricane was not going to stop jazz composer and percussionist Alexey Marti from performing at the Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Manager of Nola World Music, Robin Williams, tells WSB’s Jennifer Griffies Alexey Marti’s trip to Atlanta from New Orleans was not an easy feat.

“Well, he tried to fly but you know, all the flights were canceled over and over. So, they had to drive in from New Orleans. We were concerned that there would be some closures and they’d have a difficult time. But luckily, by the grace of God, they were able to get here safely,” said Williams.

This last year has been difficult for many musicians in the industry including Marti, whose concert dates have already taken a hit from COVID-19 cancellations, including the standing room performance he does annually at the Jazz Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

The performance was Sunday. The Atlanta Jazz Festival wraps up Monday night.
