The Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority board on Monday voted to build elevator access to the Braves bridge over I-285 for mobility-impaired visitors.

The authority will put up to $500,000 toward an elevator at the south end of the bridge leading to the Battery, the Braves’ mixed-use development under construction next to SunTrust Park.

Although the authority will pay for the elevator, its maintenance and security will be the sole responsibility of Cobb County.

Michele Swann, general manager and CEO of the Galleria, wrote in an email that she was supportive of the addition, which would bring the bridge into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“[The elevator] will make access to our customers and patrons better for our existing parking facilities, as well as help with any future additional mobility-impaired pedestrian traffic generated by the bridge from the Convention Center to the Battery and the Braves Stadium,” Swann wrote.
