A Floyd County cop is demoted for taking DUI training too literally.
While off-duty, Sergeant Josh Harkins allegedly turned up drunk to help a rookie hone her DUI investigative skills. An alco-sensor measured his blood alcohol at .1, which is above the legal limit in Georgia.
The Rome News-Tribune reports Harkins was warned not to keep driving, after it was determined he was impaired, but he continued down a county road until he could turn around and pull into his driveway.
Floyd County Police Chief Bill Shiflett demoted Harkins to patrol officer first class and placed him on one year's probation for violating state law and police procedures.
Harkins has been placed on probation before, after an allegation of excessive force during a 2011 DUI stop.
