Former Georgia U.S. Senator David Perdue plans to run for Georgia governor in 2022. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports multiple sources that say Perdue is expected to make the official announcement Monday.

Perdue’s entrance into the race sets-up a likely primary challenge against current Gov. Brian Kemp on the Republican side. The GOP primary winner would likely take-on Democrat Stacey Abrams in the general election.
Abrams announced her campaign for governor last week.
