Stone Mountain Park Police are gearing up for Saturday’s pro-Confederate flag rally being organized by an independent group on Facebook.
Police spokesman John Bankhead tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish they are urging attendees to park at the Yellow Daisy lot where the rally is expected to begin around 10:30 a.m.
“That can accommodate a large crowd and (we’ve) set up the Yellow Daisy Festival area for this group,” he says.
Park officials have no idea how many to expect, but the Facebook page for event shows more than 1,000 may attend.
“We’re going to handle the situation like we do for the Fourth of July; every law enforcement employee will be here at the park for the event,” says Bankhead.
He says police will do their best to make sure attendees are able to exercise their First Amendment rights in a safe environment.
