A Gwinnett County man loses his leg while trying to help someone who had run out of gas.

Caleb Graves, 22, and his fiancée were returning from a church service Sunday night when he noticed a driver had run out of gas on Brook Hollow Parkway.

Bill Humphrey, pastor of International House of Prayer in Lawrenceville, tells Channel 2 Action News when Graves got out to help push the man's car out of the way, he was hit by another vehicle and pinned between the two.

"Everybody was like 'thank you Jesus,''' Humphrey said."Thank God he is alive. We thought he was dead."

Graves, who is a drummer at his church, survive, but doctors had to amputate his left leg below the knee.

“Obviously when you do drums you use your legs as much as your arms,” said Humphrey.

"Other people are skillful," said friend Samuel Titiloye. "Caleb is skillful and anointed. When he plays drums it’s different."

Police are still looking for the driver who got out and ran away after hitting Graves.
