Relatives of a woman who was badly beaten on the Silver Comet Trail in Paulding County earlier this summer want more security for bikers and hikers. Tuesday, they asked the Paulding County Board of Commissioners for help.
Every bone in her face broken in the brutal attack July 29, Tina Waddell left Georgia for good after being released from Wellstar Kennestone Hospital September 3.
“She did go home to Arkansas to recover and have someone with her 24 hours (a day),” said her sister-in-law, Kristin Waddell.
But the Waddells, who also live along the Silver Comet Trail, approximately two miles from where the beating took place, say they still don’t feel safe on the trail where Tina was attacked.
“Having to tell my wife and daughter to not go out there – please, begging them not to go out there without me – it’s very, very frustrating,” said Kristin’s husband, Joey Waddell, a Paulding County firefighter.
Already, Paulding County is installing more than 50 video surveillance cameras along the trail at a cost of more than $600,000. But the Waddells Tuesday asked the County Board of Commissioners for more. They want Paulding County to install emergency call boxes along the trail.
Cell phone reception could be spotty on the trail. We just feel a direct line to a 911 call center would be beneficial,” Kristin said.
Commissioners Tuesday promised to consider the request.
