Commerce woman details horrifying superglue experience

Illyana De La Keur (Aleera Canino)

A Commerce woman did not find a practical joke funny that left her glued to a toilet seat at the local Home Depot store.

Since the incident the day before Thanksgiving, Illyana De La Keur has endured severe pain where her skin was pulled off by the contractor-grade superglue.

“I can’t sit down; I can’t lay on my back; I have trouble walking,” she tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

De La Keur says she was stuck on the toilet for nearly half an hour before family members came to check on her.  She was then traumatized by the very public attempt to free her.

She complains instead of taking her directly to the emergency room, paramedics used DW-40 to pry the seat from her backside while male store employees worked in the restroom to clean other toilet seats where the glue had been applied.

“It was horrifying; it was embarrassing; it was painful,” she says.

Worse, De La Keur says the store has done little to help.

“Nobody has called to check and see how I am,” she says.

A spokesman for Home Depot tells Parrish it has left two voice messages for De La Keur as well as sent her a letter.  The company says a third party claims adjuster is now handling the case.

Meanwhile, the Banks County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a criminal investigation.  Investigators have been viewing store surveillance and conducting interviews.
