Big construction project closes major Cobb Co. road for summer

Road construction Shallowford Road in Cobb County will be blocked between Lincoln Road and the Noonday Park for two months

Starting Tuesday, Cobb County’s Shallowford Road will be closed for two months as crews make safety improvements.

The road will be blocked between Lincoln Road and the Noonday Park for two months. Traffic will be re-routed from Canton Road to Hawkins Store Road to Bells Ferry Road.

Cobb DOT engineer Bryan Ricks tells WSB crews are shaving off five feet of hill in front of the park because drivers turning left can’t see cars coming the other way.

“If a car is coming any more than 25 miles an hour you are putting yourself at risk,” Ricks said. “Because you’re already on an incline coming out of Noonday so it is already tough to get out.

The project will coincide with the major makeover of the park. Both projects are expected to be finished around the same time.

This is part of a $10 million widening project on Shallowford Road between Wade Green Road and Jamerson Road. It is paid for with SPLOST money.
