Lady Dogs looking for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team has earned a No. 3 seed in the Alamo region and will play No. 14 seed Drexel on Monday, March 22, at 12 p.m. in San Antonio.

The game will be played at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and will be televised on ESPN2.

Next Monday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The winner of the Georgia versus Drexel matchup will meet either No. 6 seed Oregon or No. 11 seed South Dakota on Wednesday, March 24, in the second round.

It marks the first time since 2007 the Lady Bulldogs have earned a No. 3 seed or higher. Georgia is making its 34th NCAA tournament appearance — a total that ties with Stanford for second most among all NCAA Division I women’s basketball programs.

Georgia’s long and storied history in the tournament includes 20 Sweet 16 appearances, 11 Elite Eights and five Final Fours. The Lady Bulldogs have played in 88 NCAA tournament games, which ranks sixth among all DI teams.

Led by 2021 SEC Coach of the Year Joni Taylor, this year’s Georgia team boasts a 20-6 overall record. The Lady Bulldogs recently advanced to the finals of the SEC tournament following wins against No. 17 Kentucky and No. 2 Texas A&M.

The game can be heard on 960 the Ref-AM in Athens and 103.7 WXKT-FM in Gainesville.
