Domino's today becomes the first national pizza delivery chain to offer its pies with a gluten-free crust.

Gluten-free products are being seen more and more on grocery store shelves and on restaurant menus, for people with celiac disease who need to stay away from wheat, barley and rye.

Dietitian Elisa Zeid says it's a smart move by Domino's. "Food manufactures for fast food establishments see what people are following and what people are asking for and I do think its something that is going to be popular," she said.

"We are the first national pizza delivery chain to offer this," Domino's CMO Russell Weiner tells USA Today.  He also notes that while the crust is certified gluten-free, the pizza is still prepared in ovens with pizzas that aren't gluten-free, so folks who are extra-sensitive need to be aware.

The gluten-free crust will run you an extra $3 per pie. an estimated 18 million Americans are sensitive to gluten.
